Should be applied with a stiff brush, mop or squeegee.

To avoid thickening in cold weather, store in a warm room overnight prior to use.

Care needs to be taken over preparation of surfaces before application:

  • All surfaces must be free from oil, dirt, dust and loose debris
  • If using on porous surfaces, it is recommended to prime the surface first with Thompson’s Bitumen Primer.
  • Ensure the primer is completely dry before the first layer of felt is applied

General Usage
Thompson’s Felt Adhesive should be applied to the surface and left for 15 to 30 minutes (dependant on drying conditions) to develop its full tackiness
The felt should be carefully placed into the wet adhesive film.
Rub or roll each section down to ensure maximum contact with the adhesive, and to expel any air trapped between the surface and the felt.
The felt should be unrolled on to the Felt Adhesive and roller rolled with a 15 – 25kg roller.
The overlaps should be at least 75mm on the side and 150mm at the ends.
Ensure a complete bond is formed at the side and end laps.
24 hours after laying the felt, ensure all bondings have obtained full adhesion.

Timber
The first layer of felt must be nailed down in order to comply with BS 8217: 2005
Successive layers of felt may then be bonded with Thompson’s Felt Adhesive.

Porous Concrete
Prime the surface with Thompson’s Bitumen Primer.
Ensure the primer is completely dry before first layer of felt is applied.

Tools can be cleaned with white spirit

Spillages should be wiped off the surface before the Felt Adhesive has set

Major spillages should be mopped up immediately with an inert or an absorbent material such as sand. This should then be disposed of in accordance with regulations.
